Burbank Leader Freeing the spirit

May 22, 2010 in Barris Kustom, Barrisbilt, George Barris, KING OF KUSTOMIZERS

Barris Spirit Camaro

Paul Hefti of Toluca Lake came out to see the new Spirit with his wife, Denise. His father, Neal Hefti, wrote the theme music for the 1960s “Batman” TV series.

“My wife wants the red one, and I like the Lakers, so I’ll take the yellow-and-purple Camaro,” he said. “They’re gorgeous!”

George Barris Launches “Kustomized” Chevrolet Camaro Spirit – Automotive News & Car Rumors at Automobile Magazine

May 22, 2010 in Barris Kustom, Barrisbilt, George Barris, KING OF KUSTOMIZERS

Barris Camaro Spirit

Is there any room in this world for another “special-edition” muscle car? Famed custom car designer George Barris apparently thinks so, as he’s lent his name to a new customized — er, sorry, “kustomized” — 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

1928 Porter Touring Car

May 22, 2010 in Barris Kustom, George Barris, KING OF KUSTOMIZERS, Star cars

my mother the car

my mother the car

OK, we’ve gone on about the 1928 Porter, and now it’s time to say … April Fools! If you haven’t remembered the car by now, it’s my duty to tell you that it actually never existed–not until 1965, that is. This car was the star of TV’s My Mother The Car, which was only on for one year (1965-66). Barris Kustom Industries built it exactly as described above, but with a 283-cubic-inch V-8 and Powerglide (two-speed) automatic transmission. Yes, there are replica(r)s, and a 1928 Porter Touring Car is at the Star Cars Museum in Gatlinburg.
